Why Epilepsy Deserves Greater Attention in Global Health Conversations

Well Pharmacy internal hub article, Why Epilepsy Deserves Greater Attention in Global Health Conversations, by Phyllis Kimani, MPharm, dated 22 May 2026, with a purple awareness ribbon and epilepsy key facts.

During Epilepsy Awareness Week in May 2026, an article by Phyllis Kimani, MPharm, a GPhC-registered pharmacist at Well Pharmacy and founder of NeuroReach Africa CIC, was featured in the Community Pharmacy West Yorkshire (CPWY) News Digest and on the Well Pharmacy staff intranet.

CPWY represents 520 pharmacies in West Yorkshire, while Well Pharmacy has 650 branches across the UK. Sharing the article through these networks creates opportunities to bring epilepsy awareness into everyday pharmacy conversations.

The article highlights the need to give epilepsy greater visibility in global health conversations, addressing persistent myths and stigma, inequalities in access to treatment, and the wider impact of epilepsy on individuals, families and caregivers.

Drawing on her experience as a pharmacist and caregiver, Phyllis calls for greater awareness, education and compassionate support for people living with epilepsy, particularly in underserved communities where access to diagnosis, specialist care and treatment can remain challenging.

This recognition reflects the important role community pharmacists can play in improving public understanding of epilepsy and supporting more inclusive healthcare conversations.

Through her work with NeuroReach Africa CIC, Phyllis continues to champion epilepsy education, caregiver advocacy and equitable access to information and support for children and families affected by epilepsy across Africa.
