Day One at the ILAE British Branch Annual Scientific Conference in Harrogate

Today was the first day of the ILAE British Branch Annual Scientific Conference in Harrogate, and I came away with a lot to think about.
A highlight for me was Prof Arjune Sen's presentation on global epilepsy and the work happening across Africa. He later came by my poster, and I was glad to show him our NeuroReach Friends Series books, which teach children seizure first aid through stories with African characters and in African languages.
Sneha George's presentation on valproate discontinuation was of particular interest to me. As a caregiver, I have been through a switch from valproate to another anti-seizure medication in my own family, and I know the difficulties that can come with it.
I also enjoyed Dr Mike Taylor's wonderful presentation on seizure semiology in children. Mike is my daughter's neurologist, so it was a real pleasure to hear him speak.
Visiting the Matthew's Friends stand was another highlight. Their support for people with epilepsy who use ketogenic dietary therapy ties in closely with my poster on emerging treatment options such as the ketogenic diet, and healthcare worker awareness of them in Kenya. Thank you to their team for stopping by my poster too.
It was also lovely to visit the Young Epilepsy and Epilepsy Action stands and hear about the wonderful work they do to raise awareness.
Thank you to everyone else who stopped by my poster. I really enjoyed our conversations.
I'm excited for what tomorrow has in store.
