Day Two in Harrogate: Turning Epilepsy Research into Change for Families

Dr. Phyllis Kimani with colleagues at the Centre for Global Epilepsy stand, ILAE British Branch conference, Harrogate

Day 2 at the International League Against Epilepsy British Branch Annual Scientific Conference in Harrogate has left me reflecting on a vital question: how do we translate epilepsy research into meaningful change for families?

Three presentations stood out:

๐Ÿ”น Medication adherence in children with epilepsy by Prof. David Wright ๐Ÿ”น Digital self-assessment and SUDEP-related risk by Jake Ahern ๐Ÿ”น Barriers to medication adherence and medicines availability by Eric Amankona Abrefa Kyeremaa

Another highlight was visiting the Centre for Global Epilepsy stand and connecting with organisations and industry partners, including ESNA, Neuraxpharm, Desitin Arzneimittel GmbH and Nutricia. These conversations offered valuable opportunities to explore shared interests in epilepsy awareness, treatment access, research and future collaboration. ๐Ÿ’œ

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who stopped by my poster on emerging therapies for drug-resistant epilepsy in Kenya, including Isaac John Egesa, Arjune Sen, Sneha Mary George, Ladi S. and Michael Taylor. I appreciated your interest, questions and conversations about improving awareness and access in African settings.

As a pharmacist, epilepsy advocate and founder of NeuroReach Africa, these discussions reinforce my commitment to bridging research, community education and digital innovation through our children's books and emerging bilingual digital-health initiative.

Research matters most when it reaches the people who need it most.

๐Ÿ’œ Bridging Gaps. Building Hope.
